My Review of 'Arrival' (2016)

Hi, today I'm reviewing Arrival from 2016, a very interesting science fiction movie.

There are many comparisons I could make to other movies here, but it's about a situation in which aliens, 12 alien ships have appeared and are hovering over the earth or have landed in various places around the earth. They're all over the world basically, and they're huge, and everybody's wondering what the heck is going on. So they call in help from a linguist. She is a woman. Really, the story is about her and her life, and I will only say that Amy Adams is just extraordinary in this movie and her character is just awesome and she does things that are just to me, unimaginable, like throwing your protective gear off when confronting an alien in a situation where you don't know what's going to happen when you throw that protective gear off. Anyway, she ends up working with a physicist, so they start off with the usual "words matter more than numbers, no numbers matter more than words" kind of feel.

But needless to say, some kind of relationship develops and the way this script is written, it's just really thought-provoking and well worth watching. I don't want to say much more because I think people should walk into this movie just cold and then experience the feeling of what is happening here? that goes on every now and then. Anyway, it was so intriguing that I had to print off a copy of the screenplay and read it, so that tells you a little something about me and about the movie.

In any event, I highly recommend this movie and there are so many comparisons. The Day the Earth Stood Still, Contact. There were some others that were mentioned in the group that got together to discuss this film. Let's see, Interstellar, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I guess the director was the director of the most recent Blade Runner. Was it the most recent Blade Runner? I'm not sure at this point. Anyway, it was not the original. Denis Villeneuve, I'm not going to pronounce that right. Sorry. Anyway, it's just a good movie and do see it. That's it, and I will be talking to you later. See you!

PS: I forgot to mention Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
